Set up in Claude

  • Claude on the web (claude.ai) or the desktop app.
  • Any plan — Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise (per Anthropic, the Free plan can add one custom connector).
  • A ScanFood account that is the shop owner, or staff with the “View reports” right (see the rules).
  1. Open Customize → Connectors (on some versions under Settings → Connectors).

  2. Press the + button (Add connector) and choose Add custom connector.

  3. Step 1 of 2 — name it ScanFood and paste the MCP server URL

    https://api.scanfood.co/mcp

then press Continue. Claude checks the server for a moment.

  4. Step 2 of 2 — Authentication shows Sign in now (Detected); leave it as is. Under OAuth client, the default is Use Claude’s published identity (CIMD) — change it to “Register automatically” (ScanFood doesn’t support the CIMD option yet, so the default won’t connect). Then press Add.

  5. On the ScanFood connector page press Connect — the ScanFood sign-in page opens. Check that the address starts with https://api.scanfood.co/oauth/, then sign in with your ScanFood email and password.

  6. Choose the shops (tick several, or choose Whole franchise), check the “What it can read” list and press Allow — you are taken back to Claude automatically.

  7. In a chat, press the + button at the bottom left → Connectors and turn ScanFood on for that chat. Then start asking.

Two sides are involved:

  1. The Claude workspace Owner opens Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web → pastes https://api.scanfood.co/mcp → Add.

  2. Each member opens Customize → Connectors → finds ScanFood → Connect, then signs in with their own ScanFood account and picks a shop they have rights to.

  • After connecting, all ScanFood tools are listed under Read-only, and each is set to Needs approval by default — Claude asks before every data fetch. Since every ScanFood command is read-only, you can switch them to Always allow on the connector page if you trust it.
  • If Claude doesn’t fetch data, tell it directly: “Use ScanFood to check.”
  • See Example questions.

When you allow access you can tick several shops in one connection, or choose Whole franchise (branches your account gains access to later are included automatically). When you ask, name the shop or branch in your question — if the connection covers several shops and you don’t, ScanFood never guesses: it sends the list of shops back so the AI asks you which one you mean. Every answer the AI receives carries the name of the shop the numbers belong to. Totals across all branches are available when “Whole franchise” was chosen (example questions). To add or remove shops later, disconnect and connect again (how to disconnect). Claude’s Free plan allows one custom connector — just tick every shop you need in that one connection.

Customize → Connectors → press ⋯ on ScanFood → Remove (Team / Enterprise: the workspace Owner removes it under Organization settings → Connectors). To cut access on the ScanFood side too, disconnect at api.scanfood.co/oauth/connections.

Data Claude reads from ScanFood to answer you is sent to Anthropic for processing and is covered by Anthropic’s data policies and your Claude account settings — see Permissions & privacy.
